Random memory from, I think 10th grade in high school.

I remember talking to this super cute older guy at lunch one day I had seen him around before and had thought was cute but at that moment we basically just actually met. From what I recall, he had long super curly blonde hair that was held up in a ponytail. We just casually chatted for a bit and then he did something that was entirely unexpected. He gave me his phone number! I was so ecstatic because I recollect always being the more forward person at that age typically and from my perspective at the moment, a guy approached me for once.

Alas, this excitement was shortlived as fairly quickly after he walked off, right before lunch ended a girl my age I vaguely knew from a mutual class or two approaches me and says, "Hey, I like you and I know you're really nice, but if you ever talk to my man again I'm going to have to beat the shit out of you."

I'm just in total shock. I just met this guy, had no clue he was in a relationship and immediately thought holy shit this girl is being a totally possessive bitch making huge assumptions. Possibly from the rush of adrenaline for once in my life I actually responded to someone with significant confidence quickly retorting, "If you have a problem with him talking to me, you need to take that up with him, not me." With that, almost on cue the bell rings signaling the end of lunch, and without even waiting for a response I walked away, feeling kind of confident but also significantly shaken and bummed.

Reflecting on this whole interaction, there is a good possibility I have always really despised the toxic behavior of possessive relationships of this kind and in turn reacted with the polar opposite approach to relationships instead.
